The Italian painter Nicola Samori composes his portraits with close reference to techniques of the Italian Baroque. Historical figures are precisely applied in chiaroscuro onto obscure backgrounds on wood, canvas and copper. However, Samori then peels whole layers of paint off again, garbles mimics and gestures, thus revealing layers and priming below. Samori (born 1977 in Forli, Italy) studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna. Samori lives and works in Bagnacavella. This exhibition is his first to take place in Berlin.

Christian Achenbach playfully incorporates different techniques and historical references to create lavish still lifes and dynamically abstracted semi-cubist interiors. His detailed paintings are covered with numerous layers of paint, varnish and glitter, creating voluptuous, multi-perspective spaces. Achenbach (born 1978 in Siegen) studied at the Universitaet der Kuenste Berlin with Burkhard Held and Daniel Richter. In 2007, he was Meisterschueler with Anselm Reyle. Achenbach lives and works in Berlin.

Andreas Blank's stone encarved trompe l'oeils seem casual at first sight. However, his arrangements are precisely staged and after closer inspection, one discovers that light bulbs, transport boxes and wine bottles are made of marble, alabaster or sand stone and the baroque drape of a plastic bag shows visible toolmarks. Blank (born 1976 in Ansbach) studied at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste Karlsruhe and at the Royal Academy London. He lives and works in London.
